“An epic and unique African wildlife series that covers the great migration between the Serengeti and the Masai Mara through the individual stories of lions, giraffes, cheetahs, impala, wildebeest, rhinoceros, ostriches and elephants in their struggle for survival”

Contains 12 episodes on 3 DVDs - more than 10 hours of stunning African wildlife footage!

This is the story of an event that takes place in Africa during nine months of each year, year after year, driven by rain, grass and a desperate need to survive.

The great African migration is one of the most dramatic wildlife spectacles in the world. It sees the ground quake under the thunder of hooves from one and a half million wildebeests and 750,000 zebras, galloping together in search of sustenance.

Untamed Africa is a breathtaking chronicle of one of nature's most awe-inspiring migrations, as hundreds of thousands of herbivores embark on their treacherous 700-mile trek from the Masai Mara in Kenya towards Tanzania.
Before they reach the fertile lands of the Serengeti, they must cross the predator-filled waters of the Mara and Sand Rivers.

The film makers have managed to capture this amazing 'circle of life' in all its raw beauty by focusing on a number of key species and following them through their life cycles and key events.
The series follows families of Cheetahs, Lions, Elephants, Rhinos, Giraffes, Ostriches, etc over a period of time, showing their development, family structure, feeding habits and their individual struggles for survival on the African savannah.

The documentary also looks at the relations that animals have to each other, eg the predatory relationship between the Cheetah and the Thomson Gazelle, the competition between the Hyena and the Lion, and the symbiotic relation between the Rhinoceros and the Oxpecker.
Each animal is a link in the food chain and this 10-part series shows both the extreme natural beauty and cruelty of the Serengeti.

The lush, rich footage belies its age and is warm and colourful. Much of it has been shot at very close range, showing sparring hippos, cheetahs hunting a wildebeest, elephants taking their mud bath, lion cubs playing, and much more.

When Untamed Africa was first released, it was a pioneering and new way of wildlife documentary making. The 12-part series received worldwide success in more than one hundred countries.

The images were shot over a period of a whole year, showing each of the seasons. The film crews used the best camera techniques available, including static, remotely controlled and underwater cameras, using hot air balloons, helicopters and special equipment.

Untamed Africa provides more than ten hours of amazing footage of the animals and landscapes of the Serengeti and the Masai Mara.
No interviews with scientists, no CGI graphics, no re-enactments or unnecessary background info – just ten hours of animals in their natural habitats, without a single human in sight.

The documentary is expertly narrated by Emmy Award-winner John Hurt and is complemented by a grand, specially composed musical score.

PLEASE NOTE: This is an imported DVD set and the description on the box/packaging is not in English, but the entire series has a full English sound track and the on-screen menu is in English too. Enjoy!
