“The dramatic, action-packed account of the capture in South Africa of four black rhinos and their journey back to their original homeland of Mkomazi in Tanzania”

The Black Rhino, a unique and magnificent beast that has been roaming the African plains for thousands of years, is under serious threat. It is one of the most endangered mammals on the African continent and since the late 1960's ruthless poaching has all but wiped out these magnificent creatures.
Each Rhino has a price on its head. Their powdered horn is a much sought after aphrodisiac in China and is worth its weight in gold.

In 1988 the Tanzanian Government had designated the 3,500 square kilometre Mkomazi Game Reserve as a National Priority project, and they invited Tony Fitzjohn to supervise a programme of habitat restoration and the re-introduction of endangered species. His dream was to return the Black Rhino to its ancestral home - a dream which he kept alive for ten years.

Return of the Rhino chronicles his story and the perilous journey of the four Black Rhinos taken from Addo National Park in South Africa in a huge capture operation and flown to Mkomazi under the supervision of a top South African rhino vet. Along the way we have drama, from lost Russian pilots to dramatic searches, as the rhinos are feared lost to poachers.

This DVD is accompanied by a beautifully illustrated 24-page hardback reference book. Watch the close-up wildlife film and at the same time read the book to learn about habitats, diet, life cycle and more. The book is packed with intriguing facts, illustrations, photography and a 'Test your knowledge' quiz.
