“A close-up look at the highly endangered Asiatic Lion and the many challenges that the few remaining Indian Lions face in the wild”

The Lions of Gir is a unique film on the last surviving Asiatic lions in the forests of Gir in the state of Gujarat, India.

India’s Gir National Park and Sanctuary, one of the largest stretches of unbroken forest, is the last home of the Asiatic Lion. Only about 400 Lions remain, protected and revered, but under constant pressure from human encroachment.

Once found from the Mediterranean to Central India, the Asiatic Lion was nearly hunted to extinction. Despite conservation efforts, its territory is decreasing and battles with humans are steadily rising.

This eye-opening documentary examines the struggles these lions face in surviving. Captured on video for the first time, the Asiatic lion hunts, cowers from humans, and searches longingly for a place to roam.
The Lions of Gir is a classic portrayal of the man-v-animal conflict; the film captures the fight for survival played out each day between the lions and Maladhari tribe's people.
