“This is a rich and colourful epic examining the age-old conflict between people and predator, a film about the determination to stop the extinction of this magnificent animal”
Is the Cheetah running for its life? This documentary tries to uncover reasons why the worlds fastest land animal is rapidly disappearing from its native habitats in Asia and North Africa.
This compelling wildlife film explores the alarming decrease of our planets cheetah population. Over the past century, their numbers have dropped dramatically. At the turn of the 19th century they numbered 100,000, the figure today is a mere 10,000 worldwide.
We are used to seeing cheetahs on the plains of East Africa, but what of cheetahs native to other parts of the world?
Although the cheetah formerly ranged through the Near East to South India and throughout Africa, it is now extremely rare in Asia and North Africa. Only in the plains of East Africa and in Namibia do relatively dense populations still occur.
This documentary features cheetahs that live on Namibian farmland, causing havoc to the livestock. Despite this, they are helped by Wayne and Lise Hanssen, who rescue them from traps, proving that conservation measures can achieve a happy medium for man and beast.
This DVD is accompanied by a beautifully illustrated 24-page hardback reference book. Watch the close-up wildlife film and at the same time read the book to learn about habitats, diet, life cycle and more. The book is packed with intriguing facts, illustrations, photography and a 'Test your knowledge' quiz.
