“A planet without tigers would be a much poorer place, and Tigers of the Snow shows exactly what we would miss”
Venture into the dense forests of coastal Siberia to track the biggest cat on earth, the elusive Siberian Tiger, which once roamed over the wide ranges of northern Asia but now is limited to a tiny region on the Sea of Japan.
You’ll join a team of Russian and American scientists who are risking their lives to save this highly endangered and highly dangerous creature. The effort is Herculean, given the massive logging and rampant poaching which cuts down the population and the tigers’ territory, but there is hope that we can educate the next generation to protect these beautiful animals and their environment while there is still time.
Some 300 Siberian tigers survive in the wild, concentrated in a shrinking habitat and under siege from poachers. Against incredible odds, this daring band of wildlife biologists is determined to help the Siberian Tiger fight back.
National Geographic cameras are on-hand to record many never-before-seen moments in tiger conservation:
-
Researchers hastily enter a den to tag a two-month-old cub before the mother returns
-
A female tiger charges up a tree, attempting to attack a hovering helicopter
-
Team members race to revive a sedated tiger, even giving it mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.
Tigers of the Snow presents the beautiful one-hour program on these endangered animals from award-winning wildlife filmmaker Mark Stouffer. Footage of their active muscles, their piercing eyes, their regal pelt, all attest to the beauty of a dying breed.
EXCLUSIVE: our DVD also contains an exclusive, 27 mins long bonus film about the Indian Bengal Tiger, 'Tiger’s Eye', produced by National Geographic.
