“These lanky herbivores are generally peace-loving , but they are by no means defenceless against predators - one kick from a giraffe can kill its greatest foe, the lion”
At five metres high the giraffe is the tallest animal on the planet. To cope with its extraordinary build it has had to adapt is biology and behaviour.
To reach its towering height the giraffe has had to fight the forces of gravity and defeat the laws of physics and the results are one of the most instantly recognisable and extraordinary profiles of any animal; and yet so much of their lives remain a mystery.
In Africa's High Society we will reveal what it is like growing up in a giraffe herd, with graphics revealing some fascinating aspects of their biology.
The lives of giraffes can be dramatic, as colossal males battle for mating rights, and a lone adult is ambushed by a lion pride in a rarely seen giraffe kill.
Enjoying herd life, giraffes have lived on the plains for thousands of years, forming Africa's High Society. Thanks to extensive conservation efforts, we can still watch these magnificent creatures in action in this documentary in Kenya’s beautiful Samburu National Reserve.
This DVD is accompanied by a beautifully illustrated 24-page hardback reference book.
