“A stunning and remarkable film that explores the fascinating world of the amazing and beautiful dolphin, and exposes the danger which they are in from large-scale fishing”
Dolphins are beautiful, graceful and intelligent – and are loved by people all over the world.
However, in the past thirty years, over seven million dolphins have been killed in purse seine nets, set out to catch yellowfin tuna in the eastern tropical Pacific Ocean. Many more have escaped, injured, separated from their family and stressed.
For some unknown reason, large yellowfin tuna follow herds of spinner, spotted and common dolphins and this relationship has had dire consequences for the dolphins.
Vanishing Dolphins takes us from the early beginnings of this problem, through the contentious environmental battles waged in the US Congress, the courts and the international arena.
Public outcry resulted in tight legislation for US fishermen, but in South America the killings continue.
Some of the extraordinary undercover footage reveals the tragic plight of these marine mammals, but has also turned the wheels of change to safeguard their futures and preserve the seas in which they live.
It leaves us with a profound question to ask ourselves about the rights of fishermen to make a living, versus the rights of the dolphins to merely survive.
See these dazzling creatures in action and discover how you can help them.
This DVD is accompanied by a beautifully illustrated 24-page hardback reference book.
