In the midst of the dry season, floodwaters from Angola can double the delta size to some 5,000 square miles – half the size of Wales – spreading like a giant hand across Botswana.

Water defines this unique place, often deciding who will survive and who will perish. Cheetahs and wild dogs rule the savannah, while hippos and crocodiles reign in the swamp.

Each day brings a new drama to this incredible cast of wildlife characters.  The slow-moving pangolin survives in the face of raging fires. Desperate catfish actually try to walk away from their shrinking pools.

Survival can be as simple as an elephant shaking a tree for palm nuts, or as complex as a pack of wild dogs stalking and overpowering a lechwe.

Fire and flooding define this special place in a timeless cycle that can only be witnessed in Okavango: Africa’s Wild Oasis.
