“This is a beautiful film about the relationship between the Maasai, Hyenas and Lions of the Serengeti”
Balance of Power is a fascinating look at the often misunderstood relationship between Africa’s two most powerful predators and features many interactions filmed at night, as they fight for prey and the spoils of a kill.
On the grasslands of Tanzania’s Serengeti, home to the largest concentration of game in all of Africa, a delicate balance has developed between two species often presented as competitors.
Join cameraman Martin Dohrn as he uses thermal cameras and image intensifiers to film day and night, charting the lives of the mystical scavenger and the king of beasts.
Watch as the Hyena and Lion vie for power, sharing the same inhospitable habitat and pursuing the same prey, each existing at the top of the food chain and maintaining a relationship that is far more complex and surprising than myths reveal.
Narrated by Zam Baring
Filmed & produced by Martin Dohrn for Granada (2002).
