“This beautifully produced DVD looks at the Elephants and many other animals that climb the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro, and comes with a full-length bonus film about the Tarangire National Park”
In Eastern Africa, a chain of magnificent volcanoes blister the face of the earth. There’s the black mountain, the Sacred Mountain and, most famous of all, the Great White Mountain - Kilimanjaro, the highest peak and icon of Africa.
The largest and most impressive of all the animals that live on and around the Great White Mountain are elephants. Images of these great beasts, with Kilimanjaro’s white summit as a backdrop, are renowned across the globe. Much less familiar are the shy and rarely seen elephants that dwell in the high forests.
In the past, elephants roamed freely up and down the mountain. Now they and other wild animals face poisoned traps, snares and spears, due to human cultivation.
No elephant has ever reached the top of Kilimanjaro (19,340 ft) but a skeleton was found at sixteen thousand feet. Why would one of these great beasts ascend so far up the Great White Mountain?
These mighty beasts will lead us on a journey of exploration, adventure and revelation as we follow their footsteps up the Great White Mountain.
English narration by Simon Shrimpton Smith
