“A detailed look at the daily life of the African Golden Jackal, filmed against the majestic backdrop of the mountains of Northern Tanzania”
The Golden Dog follows the fortunes of a pair of jackals as they raise a new litter pups on the African plains. Known for their lifelong bond, the pair co-operates in the struggle to feed, protect and raise their family of boisterous pups.
Jackals have a reputation for being cowardly scavengers. It's time to clear up this prejudice and show how intelligent and adaptable this canine really is.
Golden Jackals are members of the dog family (Canis aureus) and are efficient hunters and diligent parents, who with great skill gather a very varied diet. Carrion makes up only a small part of their diet.
Jackals are not cowards. On the contrary, the stealing of leftovers from the table of lions and other big cats requires plenty of courage.
African jackals have many competitors, including hyenas, vultures and marabou storks, but they are determined to defend their young against intruders.
African folklore and mythology has always described the jackal as a very clever and cunning animal.
This unique film will give you a fantastic insight into the life of the jackals and their family structure.
