“Australia's dingoes are ferocious, intelligent and resourceful predators, the last living link between the wolf and the domestic dog”

The Dingo: A thief, vagabond and killer, or an intelligent, charming and social Australian national icon?

As human contact increases with the dingoes, people ignore the law and feed them. These wild animals have learnt to associate humans with food, and as a result, there have been two fatal tragedies in the last 25 years.
This has earned dingoes a terrible reputation as dangerous outlaws, but do they deserve this dreadful image?

In this film we follow Marla, an alpha female with a litter of five cubs, as she uses intuition and the help of other pack members to make the most of the Australian outback. In some states of Australia, it is even classified as vermin, to be shot on sight.

On her own she feeds on rabbits, insects, lizards and mice, but as a pack, they can bring down old or injured wallabies, sheep or cattle, and they are not averse to scavenging either.
For the cubs, there are hidden dangers in the outback, venomous snakes and spiders are widespread.

But we also meet other interesting Aussie inhabitants - wild camels roam the deserts, while the black-breasted buzzard drops a stone to crack open the unattended egg of an emu.

If Australia fails to save the dingo, we will lose a unique link between modern dogs and wolves – and one of the most intelligent, charming and sociable creatures in the world.

This film considers the evidence for and against this species. Watch it and discover whether the dingo really is friend or foe.

This DVD is accompanied by a beautifully illustrated 24-page hardback reference book. Watch the close-up wildlife film and at the same time read the book to learn about habitats, diet, life cycle and more. The book is packed with intriguing facts, illustrations, photography and a 'Test your knowledge' quiz.
