“A wild and shy member of the dog family, the wolf was persecuted and hunted to extinction in most parts of the world, but is now respected and protected, with an almost mythical status....”
There is a creature that haunts our imagination: the villain of all good fairytales and a source of children’s nightmares.
Fear of the secretive wolf has given it almost mythical status. The wolf has been a companion of early human beings for thousands of years. It is one of the most successful and widespread of all carnivores and yet we continue to fear attack and relentlessly hunt it down.
After extensive persecution by humans for centuries, wolves’ intelligence, adaptability and resourcefulness are finally winning them new friends.
A dedicated band of researchers and biologists are helping to restore wolves to their rightful status as legendary creatures of the wild.
This documentary examines our relationship with these dynamic hunters, looking at wolf stories from throughout their range, from Germany to the Yukon and from Russia to the Middle East and Yellowstone.
We explore North America, Europe and Asia, from the snow capped mountains of Alaska to the deserts of India, we shall follow this enigmatic predator and those at the forefront of the battle, as they work to ensure its status as the Global Wolf.
