“An intimate insight into the life of one of the last great predators on Earth, the wily and secretive Arabian wolf, filmed against the majestic backdrop of the river Jordan and the Holy Land”
The critically endangered Arabian wolf (Canis lupus arabs) makes its home in the lush valley surrounding the river Jordan, south of the Sea of Galilee in Israel, where it stalks wild and domestic grazing animals as the valley’s sole predator.
Living in packs, these fragile-looking wolves have tense relationship with man and live under threat of being shot on sight by farmers protecting their livestock. They are frequently mentioned in the Bible, especially as an enemy to flocks and an emblem of ferocity and bloodthirstiness.
We follow the story of one particular pair of wolves as they meet and start a family, the beginnings of a new pack.
We learn about the complex social etiquette that plays such a vital and integral part of pack life.
We see them join forces, hone their hunting skills, fight to establish their alpha status within a pack, raise a litter, and outwit the farmers who snatch their precious pups.
The film also looks at a litter of young wolf pups, the pack hierarchy, hunting, grooming and howling of the wolves, and also at Vultures, Mountain Gazelles and other wildlife in the Jordan valley.
This is a unique portrait of an extremely rare and endangered animal.
This DVD is accompanied by a beautifully illustrated 24-page hardback reference book. Watch the close-up wildlife film and at the same time read the book to learn about habitats, diet, life cycle and more. The book is packed with intriguing facts, illustrations, photography and a 'Test your knowledge' quiz.
